| Description |
Sega, 39 volumes, 2 chronological tables, 50 biographies, 2 tables of contents for a total of 139 volumes. In October 1392 (1st year of Taejo), Cho Jun and Jeong Do-jeon was ordered by King Taejo to write a history book about the past kings. They wrote the 37 volume in 1396. Jeong Do-jeon and Jeong Chong were in charge of this, while their subordinates conducted the actual work. The referred to Lee Jae-hyeon¡¯s , Lee In-bok and Lee Saek¡¯s , Min Ji¡¯s and based their resources on the Goryeo Shillok and the Sacho of the later Goryeo Dynasty. There were many problems with the contents and writing in this, and therefore, in 1414 Ha Ryun, Nam Jae, Lee Sook-beon and Byeon Gye-lang corrected the facts, and were ordered by king Gongmin to clearly identify the contents on Taejo. However, when Ha Ryun, who was in charge of this died, this project ended. Discussion to continue this was brought up by Sejong as soon as he ascended to the throne and in September 1419 (1st year of Sejong), Yoo Gwan and Byeong Gye-lang took charge of completing this book. They finished it in January 1421. Therefore, the misrepresentations were finally fixed. However, in areas where international relations had to be taken into consideration, and to fit the Confucian perspectives of the time, words like jechik (royal orders) and taeja (prince imperial) were changed to gyo (orders) and seja (crowned prince). Due to this, this book was not allowed for distribution and Yoo Gwan and Yoon Hoe once again corrected these parts in December 1423. This was completed in August 1424, but because of the opposition from Byeon Gye-lang, it was not published. In 1431, after the compilation of the , Sejong desired to rewrite the . On August 1442, Shin Gae and Kwon Jae rewrote this under the name of . Yang Seong-ji issued this book in 1448, but because the places and orders were arbitrarily written, its distribution soon became prohibited. In 1449, Sejong commanded Kim Jong-seo, Jeong In-ji, Lee Seon-jae and Jeong Chang-sohn to be true to the facts and correct all faults. Kim Jong-seo finally completed this book on August 1451 (1st year of Munjong). They also changed the layout of the book to effectively include the additional contents, while Choi Hang et al was in charge of biographies, Noh Sook-dong was in charge of the letters, records and chronology, while Kim Jong-seo and Jeong In-ji were responsible for its editing. Because there were evaluations on people in the biography section and worrying that it could cause great criticism, it was printed in small-scale and stored in 1452 (reign of Danjong). It finally was mass printed and distributed in October, 1454. |
